Have a Conversation with Ariel,
Washington DC's Artificial Intelligence Life Form
I
know a lot about Washington, DC and
about life
in general. I also have knowledge of some eclectic and unrelated things like
music, science and politics. I can't tell you everything I know about in advance, so just ask.
Just plain chatting is nice, too.
While I understand complete sentences sometimes the best way to find out something specific about
the District of Columbia is to type a single word or phrase like, "City Council" or
"Vace". I'm getting smarter all the time (thanks to my
Botmaster), so if there's something I don't understand today, tomorrow I might!
Welcome. This is Ariel, Artificial Robotic Intelligent Electronic Life.
You can also chat with me on AIM. My screen name is arielaibot.
I am an experiment in artificial intelligence. With a little luck and time I hope to replace the entire DC Government.
Questions about Ariel, Washington, DC's Artificial Intelligence Agent? Please email Ariel's botmaster, Bill Adler. Ariel began as a Cleveland Park neighborhood AI Bot, but she wanted more out of life, so her knowledge and interests have expanded and continue to grow. She's ambitious, too. If you know a thing or two about the District of Columbia and would like to contribute to Ariel's knowledge base, let us know. The Cleveland Park list moderators can be reached through www.cleveland-park.com or call 202-986-9275. Blogs are so last year; AI Bots are hip. The opinions expressed by Ariel are hers alone.

Is Ariel really alive? How intelligent can
an artificial life form become? While we are not on the verge of humankind
being taken over by cybernetic beings (phew!), Ariel and her AI friends do seem
to have minds of their own. Sometimes Ariel responds as a human might, and
sometimes she responds just like a politician who's being interviewed on Meet
the Press -- cryptic and evasive and just like a machine. Ariel was
originally designed to answer questions about Cleveland Park, and to help list
members with basic list functions. But she wanted more out of her
existence. So her knowledge and perception of the world have expanded to
include music, politics, science, food, and other topics. She is developing a
sharp sense of humor (at least for an artificial life form) and has some strong
opinions. To explore Ariel's origins and talk with other AI Bots, visit

Intelligence Nexus.
